In 1911, Ermenegildo Saroglia establishes a firm for the production of printing presses and accessories for both printing and paper and cardboard industries. The first important product of the new company enters production in 1919: it is a platen for printing through a small table of which will be produced over 10,000 units in the space of 50 years.
The period after the first World War is a period of experimentation and state-of-the-art production. The designing and production of platens for printing through cylinders and parallel pressure is started; of planocylindrical machines with stop of the cylinder; of cutters, of manual platens which will be completed later by the first automatic feeders; of the first offset machines.
During the Fascist period the first automatic platens are produced: the Balilla, the Super Balilla, the Ultra Balilla and the Ultra matic, which had great success.
In 1939 enter production the first automatic guillotine the well-known “Caesar” that invade Italian printing houses.
On November 20, 1942 and then on December 11 and July 13, 1943 the plant is almost completely destroyed by the bombing which also destroys all the patterns, part of the machine tools and the warehouse that contained 15 offset machines ready for assembly.
Mr. Ernesto Saroglia, (the founder’s son) bravely rebuilts the company that is operative again in 1945. At that moment enters the production THE SUPREMAFRONT, the product of enlightened and progressive minds, that through a special front delivery device equipped with three series of gripper solves the problem of sheet delivery in the cylinder stop machines. This device is delivered also to the NEBIOLO Company for the well-known Egeria, Super Egeria and Athena machines.
Drupa 1954 the first Ultra Balilla is presented: the best platen of that time, that could print at a speed of 4,000 copies/h paper even of 15 gr/m.
The wars, the foreign competition and, above all, the changes in the market bring the company's enthusiasm and the turnover to a hard test, the production is differentiated and starts the work of small automatic platine, machines Die and guillotines with hydraulic pressure. Productivity at the expense of quality.
In 1975 the current MecSaroglia Company is established. The business administration is transferred to new governace. In that year Mr. Giovanni Notari, becomes the leader of the company which is in very bad conditions. He trains new technicians and workers, avails himself of the cooperation of an experienced representative, Mr. Adriano Peccenini, a greatly respected and loved person who had survived the Retreat from Russia. Good at communication, he manages to get in touch with people from all over the world, just talking only Italian and some Genoese.
Notari and Peccenini decide to develop the line of automatic platen die cutting machines with hot foil stamping and embossing giving up the line of printing presses that, after the creation of the offset, have become obsolete; they also develop paper-knives and the feeders of various sizes after the merger with the G RABOLINI from Busto Arsizio.
In the years '80 the MEC SAROGLIA with the models FUB and FUB/D penetrates the foreign markets conquering mainly the United States of America and the United Kingdom, where they are sold in a hundred specimens. Overall the FUB sold in the world reach the roof of 700 specimens.
In the ’90s production slowly decreases in Europe and above all in Israel the FUB machine is still required. The efforts are then concentrated on the continuous mechanical, electronic and technological updating of the machine.
It begins to develop new ideas for the company, starting from the qualitative validity of the product and its versatility. New accessories are developed, including the output in the Tapia that makes the machine completely automatic, the non stop feeder for the rigid covers of the books that allows the continuous use of the machine. The development of the new control unit of the Tiranastri integrates the machine and the new 3 and 4 tape system, improves the application for the printing of holograms.
During 2006 starts the testing of a new line of products in cooperation with one of the main producers of laser sources: El.EN Group; the objective is to offer a new technology to the print finishing industry. This project allows the DECOLASER to perforate, cut, and decorate the materials. The news is that the machine is fed in automatically and gives an important yield, comparing to the competitors.
In May 2008 MEC SAROGLIA presents in DRUPA the DECOLASER in final version, reversing great interest and appreciation from the visitors.
Today the mechanical workshop of Saroglia is certainly downsized in numbers, but it builds with the passion of always reliable and competitive printing machines. A team of passionate and experienced people carries on the mechanical workshop with the care of the artisan and the know-how of the large company, continuing to build the Fub-Gold and other machines and providing assistance and spare parts to more than 600 machines yet Working in the market.
